If one is to judge his watchmaking skills through his work with human automata, there is no doubt that Pierre Jaquet Droz was a genius. He created the automaton The Writer in 1774 and with the help of his sons, The Musician and The Draftsman. Such is his skill that all three automata still work to this day. Made from 18k gold or stainless steel, it ranges in size from 35mm to 43.55mm and provides a fabulous array of innovative designs. The Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute has varying dials of enamel, onyx, mother of pearl, or azure blue stone. Its off-centered hours and minutes allow for some creative space and select models feature hand engraved birds, dragon relief and painted landscapes.
